The Ruin

To the left of the lodge is the remains of a second chapel.  Until a couple of weeks ago this was covered with ivy and full of bramble and ivy.  The overgrowth has now been cut back but there is still quite a bit of work left to bring the inside down to its original floor level.  As the clearance progressed a lot of masonry came to light.  It appears that fragments of broken headstones have been left here – it would be interesting to trace their original grave locations.  Click Here to see some photos:

  1. Hi Neil -wondering any thoughts re putting link again on Teignmouth Oracle to Teignmouth Tales from the Grave website/blog -we might pick up more interest/expertise/comments/suggestions/new FOTC etc before next FOTC committee meeting?

  3. Great fun when you read it aloud …think even Rosie appreciated it or maybe she was wise enough not to tell me to belt up! 🎄

  4. I have read this several times and though all the dates become confusing , It has crossed my mind whether or not its possible Harry could in fact be the son of Janet S Coke ,? would she have been in her 30s a spinster when Harry was born ? I know in those days an illegitimate child was often fostered out for awhile and at a later date brought back into the family as a Ward or distant family member , the words on the grave and her bequest to him plus them finally being together in my mind completes the story , Fanciful I know and some of you will soon be able to blow holes in it ?
